Most of us feel good in nature. People will often describe a warm breeze on the beach, walking in woodland, gazing at the stars or staring at in impressive view from the hills as a place of calm and relaxation.
Everyday, we can harness the many benefits we experience when we are in nature; reduced stress, positive and optimistic state. The word ‘biophilia’ literally means ‘love of life’.
Historically we have flourished in healthy forms of nature. The Savannah Theory might explain why we recognise landscapes that support life, have a preference for lush and healthy type environments and when viewed, reduce stress and help us perform to the best of our abilities.
Biophilia is the simple connection humans need with nature to be content. To feel linked to our natural environment and other living things.
